Run Away to the Lake

Spring break. Usually you think of college kids, crazy parties, etc. But this year, we kept it calm and ran to the lake. It was so peaceful and calming to get away from everything and leave it back at home. Now usually I am not one to choose a nature getaway, but it was just what the doctor ordered. Things at work had been going crazy, and Corona virus was just starting up. I mean, who wouldn't feel calm looking out into views like this:

These views and feelings made it a perfect getaway. We did some hiking (by which I mean trail walking). The first trail we took was called "Waterfall Trail". On the way to the waterfall though, there was the cutest little outdoor chapel I've ever seen. There, they used to host outdoor church services when the area was first being moved in to. There was a pulpit and pews. It was also a nice little stop for our fur baby we brought along. When you got to the waterfall, it wasn't anything grand, but it was interesting to see how the water has carved out the surrounding land for them past years. During higher water seasons, there was a rope kids could jump into the water from. Now I' usually not one to be over moving bodies of water, or unstable structures not built by man, however, I did shimmy out to the middle over the waters below.

We did a few other things along with hiking, such as play washers, read, play cards, hang out in the sun room and play pickleball! The name alone triggered interest, but once you get to play, it was so much fun! It's played on a smaller court than tennis but kind of the same premise, but with paddles and a wiffle-like ball. Now I'm not a professional or anything so I could've been playing completely wrong but it was fun to get out and get active. Here is the link to the official rules if you are interested yourself: https://www.usapa.org/rules-summary/

We got a few good action shots, which we will put below.

Fishing was the last new thing I got to try. Now I'm no fan of fishing, and if I really had to work for my food, I wouldn't make it. But there something to be said about the peace that'll accompany you while doing it. You don't want to talk as that'll scare the fish, so you are alone with your thoughts. It's all good, until you actually catch a fish and you are 100% unprepared! My husband came over to help but the little guy got away (unharmed) and I called it a day for fishing. The scenery though, just standing there and looking around were just so peaceful; sure do wish for that peace again.

Now I'm sure you're thinking, how can I be reminiscing at a time like this? Well, I ask you how can you not? The world is a mess, and we are all locked up, we need to look to those memories for happier times. Your mental health and physical need to be your priority. Watch that favorite show again, call your friends, heck start a blog to get your feelings out. We need to definitely be thinking of those around us who are compromised, but also yourself, because going mad at a time like this will only hurt those around you. So I leave you with this: get to the lake when this is over, but in the mean time, love those you are home with, call those you can't be with, and please only take the supplies you truly need. Hopefully in a few weeks we can go back to exploring, living and loving this thing we call life.
