Girls trips and quick get-aways are always fun, but in times like these its hard to do yet can
be important for your mental health. So a few of us got together and put our mental health first for a night and hit up downtown Dallas! We stayed at a hotel and got to experience new foods, and let me tell you, it was perfect timing!
We started our trip with brunch at Moxie’s. The drink options are fun and cute and their menu is a perfect mix. You can click here for a view for yourself! I personally got the smoked salmon and avocado bagel. Just for personal preference, I did have the salmon on the side to add as much as I wanted but it was perfect! One half of the bagel is like avocado toast and the other has cream cheese with the salmon. I ate both of my 2 sides separately but our friend ate hers as a sandwich, so the choice is yours! The outside patio area is nice but I would recommend checking the weather, as Texas can get particularly hot.
After brunch we went to check into the hotel. We stayed at the Statler and got a chance to check it out. Our room wasn’t ready yet but they took our bags into bag check and we walked around. Unfortunately, we were not informed we needed a reservation for the pool so we did not get to utilize that amenity during our stay; please note, anyone can make a reservation at the pool so take caution during these CoVid times. We found a cute little outside seating area with an aesthetically pleasing water/sculpture that was nice and calming. Once our room was ready we went on up, and let me tell you how nice it was! The bathroom was by far one of my favorite parts. The shower had 2 heads, one rain and one that’s free-hand, and a stand alone tub. The tile was just super chic and calming. They have a little espresso machine in the room for you as well and a mini bar. The drinks for the mini bar were in a pull out fridge which was super cool, however there was no room for you to put your own goodies or drinks or anything like that in the fridge as well.
For dinner we went out to the cutest little Tex-Mex restaurant in Dallas. It is called Uno Mas
and the interior is super cute! They have a greenery wall with neon words that read “Feed me tacos and call me pretty”. What was really cool was that there's sides you can pick from for your entrée isn't just beans or rice but they allow you to also choose elotte if you would like that; you don't see that as a side option very often! The food and drinks were very fresh and it wasn't heavy like most Tex-Mex restaurants. It is almost like a bar scene, so there were lots of people at the bar area drinking and having a good time. But if you do not want to go out, you can order it for take out as well if you want to try their food.
After dinner we chose to continue our night out and chose to go to Jaxon Beer Garden. The area is inside the AT&T complex, so our Uber driver (and we) were a little confused on how to get there and where the directions were taking us. Since the beer garden is in the AT&T complex courtyard, there's a lot of space to stay socially distant. It is in a perfect spot to look at some of the downtown architecture and some local sculptures and artwork that artists have put there. They did shut down the bar and everything around midnight so if you do choose to go there make sure you're there with plenty of time to get in some food and drinks.
The next morning we went over by SMU campus and had Shug’s bagel. I highly recommend the Shug Bagel; it is a meat, egg, cheese, hash brown and hot sauce on a bagel and is amazing! It’s right next to the SMU campus so you can enjoy a nice drive or walk after your meal.
Spending a night downtown was a great escape yet kept us safe! Would we make a few changes for the future? Sure, but it was a great night out with friends to take a break from my same 4 walls.
